Natural Habitat

June 15th, 2021

New Zealand is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes that I've ever seen. From stunning caves and breathtaking moutains to quiet lakes and wine tasting; there's nothing short of things to do as time seems to stand still.

One of the adventures included the set of Lord of the Rings "Hobbiton". It may have felt like a tourist trap when I initially booked, but don't let the tiny doors fool you as the property was so vast that it felt like I was in the movie. Along the way I came across this butterfly fluttering around in it's natural habitat.

It's good to have a comfort zone, but like the butterfly, you can't expect to stay there forever. Life is full of unexpected surprises, both good and bad, and learning to adjust is key for survival. But you also should stay true to yourself and not run away from who you are.

So many feel that a complete restart is the only way to move forward, thus eliminating the past and begin from scratch. Although that may bring some sense of peace in the beginning, ultimately you are just hiding from who you were and cheating yourself out of a history that was meant for you to be a part of.

The goal should be to find a way to balance both your past and future selves. The road is tough (not saying it's easier by any means) but doing so creates security and adventure and quite possibly could be the foundation of your happiness.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

The original photo of the butterfly in Hobbinton. I dropped my lens to begin this trip and had to rely on manual focus. It was nerveracking to get used to, but once I learned to completely trust my eyes then it all became clear and rewarding.
