12/25/13- Surprised Sharece with a 4 night trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico coming up in March (leaving on her birthday).
03/14/14- Did not get much sleep as my mind couldn’t wait for the weekend getaway to Cabo. We woke up before 5am (Sharece around 4:30am) and got ready for our 9:45am flight. We decided to drive and park our car at LAX since it’s only about 4 nights.

Got to the airport and went through security. I forgot to take my wallet out before entering the scanner so I had to stand to the side and get my hands tested. I don’t know what they were looking for but I passed so all was well. Boarded the flight and made it to Cabo in just a bit over two hours.
As we left passport control we were hounded by people asking about our transportation. One person stated he was our ride and tried to sell us on time shares. We left. Outside the gate we run into another just like him, also trying to sell us on things. Finally we left the terminal completely and found our pre-paid ride okay. I went to the ATM to get some Pesos and there were three armed guards with machine guns by it. Apparently they were fixing it and told me twenty minutes. I didn’t mess around and left the area while they did their thing.
We make it to our hotel around 2pm and found that the street it was on was being torn up with construction. We managed our luggage around the debris and checked in. After getting settled for a bit we venture out to get some food and oriented with the city. The place has a nice atmosphere to it although quite different than I expected after seeing Cancun already, but overall we are happy to just be here and enjoying the different environment.

We sit down to eat tacos and a few drinks at this nearby restaurant before walking around the Marina for a spell. Still tired we head back to the hotel but not before getting a few souvenirs and booking a tour to see Lover’s Beach tomorrow morning. After crashing for a bit we make our way back out to check the night life and get a bit more in our stomachs. After all, it is Sharece’s birthday and couldn’t go to bed too early.
03/15/14- Woke up early to get ready for our 10am tour to Lover’s Beach and the Arch. We were to meet at Burger King so we decided to get a light breakfast there and then we were on our way to the boat. As we board we realize we are the only ones there and no captain. We wait about thirty minutes thinking another person was going to join but never did. Just as I was wondering if we had been scammed the captain boards and takes us to our destination. The boat tour around was decent but being the only ones on board made it feel weird. Then we arrive at the arch not realizing there is no beach around to dock. Apparently we can only get pictures from the boat. Luckily he stops so we can get a good view and then soon are on our way to Lover’s Beach. As he pulls up to shore we quickly find out that his boat can’t make it all the way and we will have to jump into the water. Really? I was able to make it okay with just part of my shorts getting wet, however, Sharece was not so lucky. There were two guys there to try and help her off but just as she jumped the tide swept the boat backwards and she landing fully in the water and slipped all the way in (head to toe). I tried to act concerned but in my head I was literally laughing as I kept replaying her expression as she fell over and over again. She was a good sport about it though.

We reach the shore and as we walked around we found someone with a hair tie that let Sharece use to put her wet hair back. That was enough to make her satisfied and off we went to explore the area. We first found a cool looking cave and then noticed all the awesome rock formations around. We had thoughts of walking back and skipping the boat pick up (Which was scheduled for an hour later) but decided to stick it out and glad we did. After the pickup we toured the waters some more and saw some sea lions chasing the back of a boat and even jumping up on the tail end fully out of the water.

Shortly after docking we ventured around other parts of the marina to see what else was around and found the back side was full of elder cruise ship people. Realizing this was not the atmosphere we were looking for we made our way back towards our hotel and stopped to get some tacos and drinks at a nearby restaurant. We thought it odd that they didn’t have a menu to give us but we ordered anyway and found out the total was $38.00. That was for 3 drinks and 4 tacos. Quite a rip off, but we learned our lesson on that one. After taking a break at our hotel we get changed to our swim wear and head for the beach. It took a bit to get there but we found a nice quiet spot on the sand to relax and even jumped into the water for a bit. The water was a bit cold at first but we quickly warmed up to it. After a few hours of relaxing we went further down the beach and found where all of the Spring Breakers were, and just as we arrived they were starting the events on stage. Sharece and I get some drinks and found a nice spot to view the action in time to see the wet t-shirt contest. It was all quite an experience as this was our first ever Spring Break beach party and it was even funnier when one of the contestants was completely drunk stumbling everywhere while trying to act all sexy on stage.

We hit the hotel one more time to get changed again before going out to the clubs. First stop was Cabo Wabo as we heard some good things about the place. Unfortunately the drink prices were outrageous enough for us to just order some food and leave. We ended up finding a bar further down playing decent music and having $1 shots. We got our drink on for a bit before the live band started playing. We quickly paid our bill and walked yet again around town to see what else was going on. It took a bit to find a decent place that wasn’t overly packed but somehow we found a cool place to go in and dance called 2014 Mandala (with absolutely zero cover charge). We spent the rest of our time there just having fun before making it back to the hotel around 1am ready for bed. Another day in Cabo in the books and ready for two more. Let the fun continue!
By the way- we got a call from the tour company which we had set up for tomorrow to snorkel. They stated they had to cancel and their next opening wasn’t until Tuesday. Since we were leaving Tuesday morning they said they would give us a full refund plus throw in a complimentary sunset cruise for us tomorrow evening. Hey, sounds good to me.
03/16/14- Woke up to the sound of loud Mexican church music around 11am. Apparently they were having service right outside of our hotel window. Didn’t mind it much as we had to wake up anyway. With nothing set to do we decided to grab our snorkel gear and head to Chileno Bay ourselves by way of bus. There was a small walk from the stop to the beach but once we got there it felt great to relax. The temperature seemed hotter than previous (almost 90 degrees) and the wind was picking up some but it was a good relief from the heat. Immediately after putting our towel down we raced toward the water to go snorkeling. Again the water was chill at first but once we got used to it we were able to make our way further in. Even though the water was clear as could be, there were not any fish around and it appears we would have had to go further out to see anything. Since we didn’t have any fins we decided to just stay around shore and swim a bit. I was going to take a few pictures with my underwater camera I just bought for this trip, however, it wouldn’t turn on. Apparently there was a leak and the salt water rushed into the camera rendering it useless. It was not a total loss since we will just return it for a refund once we get back.

After a little more than an hour we head back to the bus area and wait upwards to 35 minutes without anything coming by. While we were waiting a group of kids were dropped off and were skateboarding all around us. Tired of waiting and knowing we wanted to be back by around 3pm to get ready for the sunset cruise tonight we decided to go back to the beach area and get a taxi (which cost about $16 for the 15 minute ride). Not too bad as we were able to make it back with time to spare.

We made it to the dock around 4:30pm and waited a half hour before boarding the sunset cruise (which turned out to be a dinner and all you can drink cruise). What a great time this was. We were able to get some great photos as the sun came down and enjoyed awesome shredded beef and chicken tacos. Unfortunately my favorite hat did fly off as the wind picked up. I am a bit bummed about that, however, the cruise was free so I just chalked it up to a hat well spent.
Made it back to the hotel around 7:30pm and rested for the remainder of the night. Tomorrow we do not have much planned other than some shopping and hitting the beach one more time to check out the water sport activities. Should be an interesting way to finish off this vacation.
03/17/14- Found a nice cheap taco place down the street from us and started our day. Afterwards we did a bit of souvenir shopping and found an awesome turtle thing for our home. It took some haggling but we got the price we were happy with. Afterwards we went back to our hotel and changed to go out to Medano beach. The walk there seemed to take quite some time as we had to go around the marina but once there we immediately checked with the price on renting a waverunner. $60 US seemed a bit much for only 30 minutes and it did cost us an extra $12 in fees to withdraw the US cash from the ATM, but again we haggled and off we went. I have to say the waverunner was by far one of the best things in Cabo for us to do. It took a few moments to get used to it as this was our first time but soon we were hitting the waves at full speed like we were pros.

Once we got back to shore we headed to the spring break hangout on the beach and ordered some green drinks for St. Patrick’s Day before returning back to the hotel once again to get changed again. This time we took advantage of our free drinks for the restaurant next door and hit yet another taco place down the road (and yes that is pretty much all we ate the whole trip was tacos, but they were all so good). We ordered some margaritas which arrived in a huge glass and by the time we were done with our meal we were pretty much done for the night. Any thoughts of going out partying was quickly removed as we hit the hotel for the last time. Tomorrow we have an early morning pickup to go to the airport. Cabo is now officially in the books.
03/18/14- It was an exciting trip but we are ready to go back home. Checked out of the hotel around 10am and made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare. The flight was uneventful but the drive home took forever with all of the construction on the 405 as well as rush hour. Finally made it home around 6:20pm.
